Training Your Dog To Stop Chewing
Puppies are going to naturally go through a developmental phase that includes chewing almost everything in sight. They do this to help with the pain of their teeth cutting through their gums. This is very similar to what infant babies go through. Usually puppies will stop this chewing behavior at about nine months old when all of their teeth have come through. If your dog has reached one year of age and is still chewing everything in sight, it may be a sign that you need to look at the behavior further.
Chewing can be a habit that your dog acquires because of boredom, anxiety, or even frustration. It doesn’t matter why your dog chews, the behavior can be dangerous to your dog and can very expensive for you. The first step in stopping your dog’s chewing problem is to catch him in the process of chewing something. You can limit the amount of items your dog has available to chew by offering them constant supervision and eliminating some of their favorite chew items such as shoes.
Once you catch your dog in the process of chewing and item, make it known that this is not the correct behavior for your puppy. Continue to offer your puppy very limited time to roam the house and always supervise. With this constant supervision, it offers you the opportunity to catch your dog in the act of chewing. When you are not able to offer the constant supervision necessary to keep your dog from chewing items, it is important to combine them in a small area or crate. In their crate, offer them appropriate chew toys so they begin to learn which type of toys they can chew and which items they should not be chewing.
Give your dog a special spot in the house where they can keep their favorite chew toys. Always keep these safe dog toys in this area alone; that way the dog will always know where to go when they feel like they need to chew on something. Some of the most popular chew toys for dogs are old socks, rawhide, safe toys, and knucklebones. Many people say that Rawhide should only be given to dogs while you are there to supervise because sometimes pieces can break off and cause your puppy to choke.
Anytime you are trying to teach your puppy to behave in a certain manner, it is important to provide stability in the training. Be consistent in your commands and provide only appropriate toys to chew on. If you do not want your dog to chew on shoes, don’t offer them an old shoe as a chew toy. If you want your dog to stay away from the children’s squeaky toys, don’t offer them squeaky dog toys to chew on.

How do you train your dog to stop chewing up everything?
I have a dog who chews up everything! We got him in March of this year when he was just a few weeks old. He has since chewed up everything we own…toys, shoes, books, furniture, you name it. We try really hard to keep things put up where he can’t get to them but occasionally we will forget and then it is "fun time" for the dog. We’ve bought every kind of chew toy there is and, strangely, he won’t chew on them. I think he does it to spite me! I don’t have the money to take him somewhere to be trained. What should I do?
This is difficult. There is some bitter apple spraw you can buy at the pet store to spray on things that tastes bad. Dont let the dog run around unsuoervised, try a kennel in the yard while you are gone. Give him toys and safe chew items.

There are DON’T CHEW sprays at a local petstore near you! I heard bitter apple and other sprays keep ur dog from chewing on unnecessary things. What you can also do is tell them NO! on things you don’t want them to chew, and bring them to something they CAN chew! Good luck with that! Personally, telling my dog NO already does the trik but that’s just my dog.

Hehe, he IS doing it to spite you, in a way. He’s either trying to get your attention, or, if he does it when you’re not home, may have separation anxiety.
Dog training is really "owner training." All I ever needed to know about training my two dogs I learned from this book:

you need to give him time.i know it is anoying. try this,it has worked on all 6 of my hyper dogs!: find a old chair or something.DO NOT LET ANY HUMAN SIT IN IT AGAIN,it is for your dog.useing a small treats teach you dog to chew it up on comand. then keep it in the corner.you dog will know that that is the only thing to chew on. everytime your dog chews on anything but his toys and his chair tell him a ferim "NO" and a light smack on the nose.(not hard)

i know the feeling! we used a spray on our old sofa’s, that had a really horrible smell so i cant imagine it tasted any better, we got it from out pet shop and i think we paid about £4.00 for it, its called pet behave spray, it worked wonders for us although it was too late and our 1 year old sofa’s were chucked out. The smell died down after about 15minutes and definatly worked for us. The link is the exact one we had.

I’ve been training dogs for ten year. So, this is easy for me 2 answer. When u see them with a shoe, paper, or etc. take it from them and grab thier muzzle. Look right at them and say no chew. If they grab it again do the same. Also, replace the thing they were chewing with a toy so they know what they can chew on.

It’s normal puppy behavior since he’s probably still teething. But the bitter apple spray works great or keep him behing a baby gate when you’re not home.

Number 1. You have Got to pick up things you DO NOT want puppy to eat/chew. Sucks but if you want to keep your stuff yours…
Number 2. If you forget, and catch him with something that is not appropriate for him to eat. Tell him "That’s not yours!!" and give him a toy that is. then Tell him. "This is yours."
Number 3. You need to take your dog for a walk Once a day for at LEAST 45 minutes. A tired puppy is a happy puppy and won’t get into too much trouble cause they are now tired.
Number 4. Keep the dog under your supervision at all times. Hes a puppy! Just like a baby!!
Number 5. Go to your local library and get Puppies for Dummy’s. It is a great book that gives you many in sites of a dog.. What to expect during their growing stages, how to train them.
Good luck
